Working on the tail section of the Sagitta XC. Over the holidays I've had a bit of time between tapering for the Ironman in New Zealand, so thought maybe this can be a good oportunity to get a bit more completed.
Covered the section elevator as well to make things a bit more balanced while lining this up.

Its been a few months since i've updated this section, success with the Ironman in march. Both Mat and myself finished the day with a respectable 13hrs for me and Mat was 20minutes behind me. A hard day but really enjoyable and well worth the effort put in (12 months of training).
Swim was awesome, edged along the side of a few athletes and juts concentrated on my stroke and breathing. I was out of the was in 1.06. Really happy with that time!
Bike was a long day, 3 loops of the course, first 2 was basically about sitting on my pre-race pace and sticking to it, eating and drinking when the garmin told me too. The last lap was the hardest with the NE winds picking up and making it a hard slog along the cathie straight.

Just renewed the .com.au for the site, i was actually going to let it go as interest is in Ironman at present, but the credit card popped out of the wallet. Plus John from Composite Scale Models is working on a new molded tail plane for the ASH26, way cool!
One of my close flying buddies has stopped flying and handed all his models off to me which is another poke to get started and get a few things done.
On another note a close mate of mine from work is part of the Gliding Club here in Toowoomba, they are taking delivery of a new Duo Discus 2 seat beast, so he's booked me in for a fly in that. Excitement plus!

I'm honest, i've just not had the time to post on my own site, between training for the Ironman, website building and my job there has been zero time to anything. Why now you ask? Well i'm on the taper for the IM, the race is next week (march 28th) and i'm slowly winding back the training time.
I've done no flying at all, the move to Toowoomba is great, kids are settling down into their new schools and life is back to some sort of normality. I think i've actually forgot how to fly a plane. LOL
First thing in April is to get back into some building, i've got so many projects half done, 3/4's done, I have no idea where to start. I guess one of them is to get something electric to play with in the backyard, then move onto and finish the ASH, poor thing has taken so long to even get started it moans at me everytime I see it in the garage.
I've changed the forum over to Windsock's community, as its gets updated on a daily basis, i'll post some info over there as well.
Onward and upward!

Apologies to everyone for not updating the site as frequently as I had been, alot of guff going on in my world at present. My current employer has decided to make my position redundant, have to take my hat off to them. Actually it has come at a rather good time, my wifes folks own a vitamin and health food chain of shops based in Toowoomba, we have one here in Brisbane as well. So, for us its off to Toowoomba to manage one of the shops and a lifestyle change for us. Very excited about that, as the house we have purchased is only 5 minutes away from the TARMAC airfield, brilliant! Another plus for the house is that it sits very high up and has 1 3/4 acres of land, perfect for side launch and electric. I'll have to leave the updates until new year, moving and what not takes a bit of time.

Alrightly, she has started, been in the back of my head for the last 2 years and now its time to get started. It will be rather slow, but since it took two years to start, lets hope its not another two before i finish it.
Started on the canopy section as I thought that would be a good start, easy on into it. Since the canopy had been sitting for so long, there was a small warp in it, so i've attached it to the fuse to sit in the sun for a week or two.
The clear plastic was cut out using a dremel and a steady hand, as you can see I went a bit larger on the cut, its easy enough to shave off to get to fit right.
So with that sitting and getting its shape back, I went on the the retract. John supplies these FEMA retracts, great bit of hardware.
Using the 9mm play i've shaped and fitted both ends to fit snug in the fuse.
I'll apply fibreglass to fix this in, but first i'll get the doors sorted and fit position correct. I've placed (roughly) the retract to come out in its extended position so that it sits just forward of the spar system.
To secure it so the timber doesnt move, i've placed a 9mmx9mm square spruce attached to both ends in place.
Extended position.

Sorry people haven't been online or posted on SW for a while, i've been dedicating my time to training for my first Half Ironman Triathlon. Its a very time consuming sport as well as expensive, so funds have been diverted into that. Some progress on the Sagitta, I do have a small window that I can complete and start some planes. I've covered the left hand inner panel of the Sagitta and started working on a Quatro, a small slope/electric glider, perfect for a quick fly.
I'll take a shot of my Sagitta progress this weekend and get it online for every one to see. Its so frustrating having the planes gather dust, but you can only one thing at a time with family commitments and work, but never the less the planes are still there to work on when I have some training downtime.
Until next time...
